The private hire vehicle industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, largely due to advances in technology.

According to government statistics, between 2022 and 2023, the number of registered private hire vehicles increased by 11% in London and 17% in the rest of England.

The challenge

A private hire transport company needed help with a rigid contract with a major UK mobile network operator. They were using only a small fraction of the data they had contracted for, losing nearly 90% of their investment.

Additionally, the network could not provide the flexibility and security the business needed for its evolving requirements. The company required mobile connectivity for driver PDAs, job allocation and route mapping, vehicle tracking, driver behaviour monitoring, and in-car 4G Wi-Fi.

The Solution

The partner suggested migrating the company’s fleet to IoT technology with Smart Mobile Data, using a custom data pool. The partner migrated the company to a Smart Mobile Data solution with a custom data pool across their entire SIM estate and range of devices.

The migration to Smart Mobile Data allowed for easy access to usage information, flexible data bundles, and multi-network SIMs for increased reliability, security, and resilience.

The customer was moved to the FlexConnect tariff, which provided un-steered 4G/5G access to O2, Vodafone, EE, and Three.

The partner also offered the customer easy access to hardware upgrades through a range of competitively priced products from leading manufacturers on the Hardware Store on Cloud Market.

The partner is projecting a healthy revenue return over the three-year contract. The transport company is saving money while delivering an enhanced customer experience and improving its overall business communications and processes. It is no longer locked into a costly, overly restrictive contract and has greatly improved its service.

  • The transport company improved customer experience and saved money by enhancing its business communications and processes.
