For many SMBs, mobile has become part of the fabric of everyday work. Mobile services are how employees access cloud apps, authenticate securely, stay connected with colleagues, serve customers, manage tasks and keep business moving wherever they are.

Yet mobile is still too often treated as a commodity, sitting apart from the wider technology conversation. That overlooks the reality of how SMBs now work. Mobile is not just another connection. It’s a business-critical service that supports many of the same outcomes as cloud, fixed connectivity, cybersecurity and modern workplace services.

This mindset needs to change as the channel moves forward. SMBs are increasingly looking for one trusted provider to help them simplify, manage and optimise their technology estate. They recognise the importance of technology, and don’t want disconnected suppliers, more complexity or more technology for its own sake. They want clearer accountability, predictable costs and practical support from providers who understand how different services work together.

This shift is broadly summed up as everything-as-a-service. It is a model built around simpler access to technology, predictable recurring costs and ongoing support, management and optimisation. Rather than buying disconnected products from multiple suppliers, SMBs increasingly want joined-up services that help them get more value from their technology over time.

If a customer already relies on you to manage the vital parts of their technology estate, mobile is a natural extension of that relationship. It gives you another way to support their business, strengthen customer loyalty and make your proposition harder to replace. Once embedded, mobile services can also create a highly profitable stream of recurring revenue that customers are unlikely to change without a strong reason to do so.

That matters even more as traditional revenue models continue to shift. The PSTN switch-off is accelerating the move away from long-established line and call income, pushing providers to think carefully about where future recurring revenue will come from. Mobile will not replace every legacy revenue stream on its own, but it is one of the most natural complementary services to bring into existing customer conversations.

The opportunity is clear, but the challenge is also real. Mobile can be a tricky product to sell and scale, even for experienced communication providers. Different networks, tariffs, commercial models, processes and support requirements can make it feel more complex than it needs to be. For MSPs entering the mobile market for the first time, that complexity can be enough to slow momentum before it starts.

To succeed, providers need a straightforward way to understand the opportunity, compare options, position services clearly and move quickly from customer interest to proposal. They also need the right support around them, so their teams can build confidence, identify opportunities and have better mobile conversations without needing to become mobile experts overnight.

There’s no single route into mobile that works for every provider. Some partners want the control and margin opportunity of a wholesale model, while others prefer the structure and support of Network Billed Mobile. The important thing is having the flexibility to choose the right approach for your business, your capability and your customers.

For our Wholesale Mobile partners, this thinking prompted us to launch Velocity, Giacom’s unified Wholesale Mobile proposition. Velocity was developed to simplify how partners sell across Vodafone, EE and O2. Rather than working with separate propositions, tariff structures and sales approaches for each network, partners can use one consistent framework while still selecting the right network and tariff for each customer.

That means simpler comparisons, clearer customer conversations and a quicker route from enquiry to proposal. It also gives our partners a more practical way to bring mobile into the broader technology relationship, whether they are adding it to an existing communications portfolio or building it into a wider managed services model.

To ensure partner success, Velocity is backed by Giacom’s Mobile Partner Success Programme, which provides onboarding, training, sales guidance and opportunity support for partners entering or expanding within the mobile market. The aim is to help partners upskill quickly, support their sales teams and build mobile into their proposition in a way that is commercially realistic.

Ultimately, if mobile sits outside that relationship, another provider has a reason to remain close to your customer. Bringing it into the conversation helps close that gap. It gives providers a practical way to protect recurring revenue, increase customer stickiness and support more of the technology their customers use every day.

As the channel moves towards everything-as-a-service models, mobile cannot be left on the outside. It is one of the services that helps hold the wider customer relationship together, and one that customers increasingly expect to see as part of a complete technology solution.
